Caring For Your PAP Device

Now that you have been supplied with your equipment and have started on your journey to successful PAP compliance, we want to guide you through the process of caring for your PAP equipment.

Cleaning Your Equpiment:

Equipment that is kept clean will work more efficiently last longer, work quieter and will help prevent possible infections. By keeping your equipment clean and using replacement parts as directed you are contributing to the success of your treatment and improving your quality of life.

Daily care for your equipment:

Remove the mask/nasal pillow from the headgear. Clean with warm, soapy water, rise and let air dry.

CAUTION: NEVER PUT PAP SUPPLIES THROUGH THE DISHWASHER.

Use pure soaps only. DO NOT use oils, alcohol bleach, moisturizing or anti-bacterial soaps, or any chlorine compounds to wash mask components.

Turn off your humidifier empty the humidifier and let it air dry.

Change the water in the humidifier.

ALWAYS USE DISTILLED WATER IN THE HUMIDIFER TO AVOID MINERAL DEPOSIT BUILD UP. Straight white vinegar may be used to clean humidifiers of deposits.

Clean the humidified chamber frequently to prevent mold growth.

Wash your face each night to remove excess facial oils and minimize the build-up on your mask.

Weekly care for your equipment:

Clean the non-disposable filter with warm soapy water and let air dry. The filter is easily taken out from the device by pinching the middle of the foam. The filter is normally found in the rear of the unit. Check your user manual for details.

Wash your washable PAP supplies in soapy water, rise well and allow them to air dry.

Wash headgear and chinstraps with warm, soapy water, rinse and leg air dry. HEADGEAR IS MACHINE WASHABLE BUT IT IS BEST TO WASH BY HAND.

Wash tubing in warm soapy water, then rise and air dry.

Wipe the machine off with a soft damp cloth.

Bi-Weekly care for your equipment:

Replace the non-disposable filter.

Bi-Yearly care for your equipment:

Replace the non-disposable foam filter every six months.

Things to Remember:

Even with a proper cleaning system, eventually some equipment collects bacteria and wears out. Use our replacement part program guide for details.

Check filters for damage or blockage. A blocked filter can hinder a PAP device’s ability to deliver accurate treatment pressure. Filters remove dust particles from the room air that the PAP device is delivering to you. By cleaning and replacing your filters as advised, you prevent the inhalation of unwanted debris and partials in the air.

In case of breakage or damage to your PAP device or mask please contact us as soon as possible.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPAIR YOUR DEVICE ON YOUR OWN.

If you are using a Respironics Comfort Gel mask, avoid using HOT water when cleaning the gel cushion. See your user manual for details.

If you are concerned about the accuracy of the pressure being delivered by your device you arranged to have it checked by one of our technicians to ensure your device is supplying your prescribed pressure.

Replacement Parts Guidelines:

CPAS recommends you get involved with our replacement parts program. The “hardware” of your PAP device lasts much longer than the “soft” accessories such as the mask components, tubing and disposable filters. We want to ensure you are being treated with effective and sanitary equipment.
